Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has once again put pen to paper, extending the state of local emergency with an executive order, an action that's become all too common in the face of what's no longer a stranger but a frequent visitor - natural disaster.
According to an announcement from the county on Hillsborough County's website, the latest extension of the emergency status runs through January 27. This ongoing response follows the impacts of Hurricane Helene, which first prompted a state of emergency on September 23, 2024. The extension adds another challenge for a community still recovering from Helene’s effects and preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Milton.
Governor Ron DeSantis declared a statewide emergency as Hurricanes Helene and Milton approached, echoing the local urgency with his proclamation.
