Following a thorough investigation, Hillsborough police have arrested 19-year-old Kenyon Raishaun Cameron in connection with a double homicide that occurred in late December. Cameron is facing two counts of first-degree murder after the deaths of a teenage girl and a young man who were found shot inside a vehicle, according to an abc11 report.
The victims, identified as 16-year-old Zikera Wardlow and 20-year-old De'Anthony Letrelle Morgan, were discovered by officers on Cardinal Drive after a report of a gunshot injury, and although the initial response by the authorities was on the morning of December 30, it is believed by the police that the actual shooting took place the previous night, during which time residents reported hearing gunshots, as reported by CBS 17.
Arrested yesterday and being held at the Orange County Detention Center without bond, Cameron will encounter the judiciary for the first time since his arrest in court today, as noted by officials in a The News & Observer article.
Friends remember Wardlow for her basketball skills and aspirations, with family friend Sharin Murphy telling abc11, "She's an awesome girl. She had a career ahead of her."
Morgan is remembered as a devoted uncle and hard worker with goals to advance his education in engineering, as stated by his mother Pamela Stevenson in an interview with The News & Observer.
The families affected have voiced their reactions to the arrest, with Rico McDowell, Morgan's father, expressing a sense of relief and sharing, "Actually, we buried De’Anthony yesterday, we had his funeral yesterday, but it’s great news to have today. The pastor said joy would come in the morning, and we got some joy out of this today," in an interview with CBS 17.
