A 21-year-old male hiker was rescued by the Honolulu Fire Department after sustaining injuries on the Laie Falls Trail last Saturday. Details of the rescue operation, released by the HFD, indicated that the incident occurred near the fourth waterfall, rendering the young hiker unable to continue his trek.
At 2:38 p.m., a call for help was relayed to the HFD with first responders arriving at the scene by 3:04 p.m., a landing zone was established for the search and rescue team. By 3:48 p.m. - shortly after locating the hiker - he received initial medical treatment and was prepared for aerial extraction by Air 1, which culminated in a safe transfer to EMS staff waiting at the landing zone at around 4:00 p.m.
The emergency response, which included six units and 14 personnel from the HFD, resulted in the safe transport of the remaining four members of the hiker's group. Each hiker was airlifted individually to ensure their well-being. The operation was completed by 5:34 p.m., with all hikers accounted for and off the trail.
