A tragic incident unfolded yesterday morning in southwest Houston where a construction worker lost his life and another was seriously injured after a driver crashed into the worksite. According to Click2Houston, the collision occurred around 8:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Orem Drive at White Heather Drive, which is in the vicinity of James Madison High School. The construction crew had been working on a sidewalk, cordoning off the entire right lane as a safety precaution when the accident happened.
The driver, a 39-year-old man, was behind the wheel of a Nissan Sentra when he reportedly ignored the traffic barrels and plowed into the construction workers. As reported by ABC13, the vehicle continued on its destructive path, striking a utility pole and then colliding with a Lexus, whose driver escaped unharmed. The second construction worker was swiftly taken to the hospital to treat his serious injuries.
In the aftermath of the crash, authorities detained the driver of a Sentra at the scene, suspecting intoxication played a role in the incident. The Houston Police Department is currently investigating with assistance from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, as charges are pending upon the completion of this inquiry.
