Houston authorities are currently probing a deadly incident that occurred on the service road of 5300 East Freeway, as reported yesterday afternoon. At about 2:40 p.m., a 47-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle, the Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division confirms.
Standing on the sidewalk near the accident site, the man stepped into the westbound lane—not at a crosswalk—where he was hit by a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck. Details concerning the man's identity are yet to be disclosed, pending the confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to a recent report.
Following the incident, the driver of the offending vehicle, a 52-year-old male, pulled over and stayed at the location. As the paramedics from the Houston Fire Department arrived, they quickly transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital, yet, despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead.
The driver, who cooperated with authorities, was found not to be impaired during the preliminary on-site inspection. He was questioned and released, and his involvement in the ongoing investigation continues. The Houston Police Department is actively investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
