The Houston Texans took a moment before their playoff game to honor three New Orleans Police Department officers for their actions during a terrorist attack on New Year's Day. Sergeant Nigel Daggs and Officers Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan were recognized for their bravery during a ceremony held on the field, WDSU reported. The officers received custom jerseys and the title of "First Responders of the Game."

During the New Year's attack, the officers quickly responded after the perpetrator, driving a white pickup truck, plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 14 and injuring 35 before crashing into a lift vehicle, according to NOLA.com. As the assailant, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, opened fire on the officers, Daggs, Beyer, and Jordan returned fire, fatally wounding Jabbar. The Texans' social media post honored the officers, saying, "Thank you for your service."

Bodycam footage from the incident, released by New Orleans Police Department on Friday, captured the perilous situation that unfolded on Bourbon Street. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick highlighted the critical response from her officers, expressing gratitude for their courage under fire. According to WWLTV, Kirkpatrick said, "Again, I wish to honor our national heroes and our New Orleans treasured officers."

Officers Jordan, and Joseph Rodrigue, who was also present during the attack but did not fire at the suspect, sustained gunshot wounds to the thigh with the latter additionally suffering a broken shoulder, both officers have since been released from hospital care.
