An 18-year-old transgender woman is set to address the public after being the victim of a violent stabbing and robbery incident upon alighting a Houston METRO bus in December. According to KHOU, the high school senior, identified only as Rue, was pursued and assaulted after rejecting a fellow passenger's request to borrow her phone. The confrontation led to Rue being stabbed multiple times, which resulted in a punctured lung.
Rue, a Black transgender woman, was stabbed at Shepherd Drive and Memorial Drive in a violent attack. Her assailant, Joseph Fuerborn, was quickly arrested by Houston police while still holding the knife. Rue was critically injured and taken to the hospital. Fuerborn is also linked to an earlier robbery that same day, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
On Friday at 1 p.m., Rue, her attorney, advocates, and representatives from Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare's office and the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus will hold a press conference to raise awareness about the growing violence against Black transgender people in Houston. The event calls for justice and better protection for vulnerable communities. METRO police are working with the Houston Police Department on the ongoing investigations, as stated by KHOU.
