Orange County's culinary landscape faced an unexpected change as ‘The Waterfront,’ a beloved local restaurant, was engulfed by flames early Sunday morning. Located with a view overseeing Jennie Jewel Lake on Orange Ave, the establishment now stands indefinitely closed due to the damage incurred from the fire. WFTV reported on the outset that officials had yet to comment on both injuries and the cause of the conflagration.
Firefighters were quick to rapidly respond to the scene before the break of dawn at approximately 5 a.m. today. As of this reporting, the events leading up to the fire remain unclear, and the Orange County Fire Department has maintained silence. Seeking to assert control over an uncertain future, owner Ryan Davis intends to rebuild. "We have no choice, but to rebuild it," Davis says. "It's our livelihood, but it's also an icon for the city of Edgewood," as detailed by WESH. Yet the project's timeline remains as hazy as the smoke that once billowed from the restaurant's windows.
Residents of Edgewood are sure to feel the absence of 'The Waterfront' – a fixture since 1972, known not just for its food but as a gathering place for community and memories. Davis, awakened by his wife after she viewed a breaking report on WESH, confronts more than just the physical restoration.
