A homicide investigation is underway by the Metropolitan Police Department after a man was fatally shot in Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident took place last Saturday and was confirmed in a report by MPD's official release, which detailed the responses of Fifth District officers at around 5:09 p.m. to a residential building on the 1500 block of Benning Road, Northeast.
Officers discovered 24-year-old Thomas Drew Jr. of Bowie, MD, with gunshot wounds in a hallway of the building. Immediate medical assistance was provided as DC Fire and EMS transported Drew to a local hospital. Despite rigorous attempts at resuscitation, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
As the investigation continues, authorities are calling on anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The MPD has not taken any suspects into custody at this time, and they urge witnesses to contact the police at (202) 727-9099. Alternatively, individuals can send a text message to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411 with any pertinent information. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for details that lead to the arrest and conviction of a person or persons responsible for this homicide.
