The Iredell County Sheriff's Office is currently searching for 33-year-old John Dexter Wines, a suspect believed to be involved in a shooting during a domestic dispute that occurred in the early hours yesterday, WBTV reports. The incident took place at the intersection of Wiggins Road and Mount Ulla Highway, where deputies found a shooting victim with a wound to the lower abdomen around 3:15 a.m. yesterday.

According to the victim's account, Wines had been following their car earlier in the night, eventually blocking their vehicle at the intersection and then confronting them with a handgun. After the shooting, Wines reportedly fled toward Rowan County, WCNC mentions. It is known that Wines was on court-ordered electronic monitoring for previous domestic violence charges but, he had removed the device after the incident.

Wines has a violent criminal record which includes past charges for kidnapping, assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, DWI, and habitual misdemeanor assault. The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has put out warrants for his arrest on multiple charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and, felony violation of a domestic violence protection order with a deadly weapon. He is also charged with misdemeanor interfering with an electronic monitoring device, WCCB Charlotte reports.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on WCCB Charlotte, "Detectives say Wines was wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor for domestic violence charges, but cut it off after the shooting," highlighting the serious nature of the current allegations against Wines.
