
The city of Kannapolis has announced a series of events from Wednesday next week through January 20 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Under the theme "Judged Not by Skin, but by Character," the activities will provide opportunities for reflection, education, and celebration of the civil rights leader's legacy, as per the City of Kannapolis release.
One of the events is the Wreath Laying Ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday next week at 6 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Concord. Other scheduled events include the Keeper of the Dream Awards Banquet on Friday next week at 6 p.m. at the Laureate Center in Kannapolis. This is a ticketed event, and tickets can be purchased online.
On Friday next week and January 20, Cabarrus County students will give oratory presentations at the Laureate Center as part of the Speeches & Dreams Oratory Presentations. The Dream Day Parade will take place at 11 a.m. on January 20, featuring local cheer and dance teams, marching bands, civic groups, and businesses. Partial street closures will begin at 10:50 a.m. in preparation for the parade.
After the parade, festivities will continue at the Laureate Center from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Dream Day Event will include a Minority Business Fair, Health & Wellness Fair, Local Non-profit Organization Fair, Historically Black College and University Information Fair, and an Art Contest, among other activities, offering educational and celebratory experiences for families.
