With an eye toward empowering our elderly community against the ever-looming threats of fraud and scams, the County of Kaua‘i's Agency on Elderly Affairs (AEA) is bringing together various partners for an educational session. On February 12, Kupuna Alert Partners will present on Fraud and Scam Prevention at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, as reported by the Kaua‘i County's press release. The event's registration will open at 8:30 a.m., with the presentation itself launching at 9:30 a.m. amid an array of resource tables from community providers.

Interested participants can ensure their spot by pre-registering through a link or QR code, although walk-ins will also be accepted on the day. The agency highly recommends pre-registration to accurately prepare for the number of program materials and to keep the light refreshments from running low. To pre-register, folks are directed to the AEA's provided online form, or they can alternatively contact the office by phone or email.

The lineup of Kupuna Alert Partners features a multi-agency roster dedicated to educating on a range of topics. These include preventing Medicare and securities fraud, tackling prescription drug misuse, and strategies to dodge identity theft scams, aiming to fortify the community's defense against these deceptive threats. Partners include the Department of the Attorney General, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Department of Health's Senior Medicare Patrol, and the Department of Public Safety's Narcotics Enforcement Division.

AEA is focused on accessibility, urging those requiring an ASL interpreter or material in alternative formats to reach out well in advance. This ensures that every individual, regardless of their language or disability, can fully participate and benefit from the educational session. All requests, when made as soon as possible, will be accommodated to fulfill the different participant requirements.
