The Kaua‘i Fire Department has recently celebrated the induction of four new firefighters to its ranks, alongside the promotion of two seasoned personnel. The ceremony, held at the Līhu‘e Civic Center’s Mo‘ikeha Courtyard, recognized the hard work and dedication of the department's members. Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami praised the graduates and those promoted, saying, “I want to congratulate you,” and expressed his gratitude toward the families who support the fire department personnel. KFD Fire Chief Michael Gibson celebrated the achievements, noting the valuable joint training partnership between KFD, Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), and Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, as per County of Kauai.

The recent ceremony saw Barak Aviguetero, Brendan Young, Jason Luke, and Kaiea Pa become the latest graduates of the department's rigorous training program. In acknowledgment of their advancement, a ceremonial pinning of badges was held, where family and friends were in attendance. Among the promotees, Braden Iwami ascended to the role of Firefighter II, and Eric Pereza was named Ocean Safety Bureau Officer II, both of whom have displayed commitment and skill throughout their tenure.

New firefighter Barak Aviguetero, a Waimea High School alum, thanked his family, girlfriend, and the training personnel for their support. Similarly, Līhu‘e-native Brendan Young extended his gratitude to his wife Cassandra and his ‘ohana for their help during his academy tenor. Jason Luke from Honolulu appreciated his family, friends, and KFD's training officers for their role in his success. Kīlauea's own Kaiea Pa, a graduate from Kamehameha Schools, also acknowledged his family, friends, and the Training Bureau. Each new firefighter had the honor of being pinned by a cherished family member during the ceremony.

Braden Iwami, with his 10 years of experience within KFD, became Firefighter II Rescue Specialist, attributing much of his journey to the support of his wife Stefani, and son Maverick; as well as fellow firefighters and officers. Eric Pereza, a dedicated member of the Ocean Safety Bureau for 17 years, thanked his wife, Kristina, their children, and his OSB superiors for their unwavering guidance. Both individuals are seen as embodiment of the department’s values and spirit.
