In Kyle, a small town that's quietude was recently shattered by an alarming incident, two teens have been arrested following a distressing interaction with two young children. As CBS Austin reports, 19-year-old Kaine Villareal and 18-year-old Lane Burch faced charges of making terroristic threats after a supposed prank went dangerously awry.
The incident unfolded on a seemingly ordinary Wednesday afternoon, as an a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old were walking home from Negley Elementary School at around 3:20 p.m. It was during this homeward journey that they were approached by Villareal and Burch, who posed the unsettling question, Do you "wanted to be kidnapped?" CBS Austin reported. The interaction sparked immediate concern, prompting the children to reach out to their parents, who did not hesitate to contact the Kyle Police Department.
Acting on the parents' call, the police arrived and confronted the two young men, who claimed the incident was nothing more than an emulation of a social media stunt they had seen. They told officers they were trying to recreate a TikTok prank, a detail also noted on KVUE.
Despite the suspects' claim that the dialogue was intended in jest, the severity of the situation was not overlooked by law enforcement. Both Villareal and Burch were subsequently arrested and charged with terroristic threat, a charge that underscores the seriousness with which threats of abduction are rightfully treated. Additionally, the incident was promptly communicated to officials at the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, ensuring that the school district was aware of the matter concerning students’ safety.
