Stepney's credentials in overseeing water-related concerns are extensive, she was previously the deputy executive director of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and also held the position of deputy director of the Office of Water, her role included handling water permitting, planning, availability, and the overall supply programs within the state, Stepney boasts a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering along with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from UT Austin, showcasing her educational prowess in technical fields relevant to her new responsibilities. She also participates as a board member for the Mickey Leland Environmental Internship Program and has completed the UT Governor's Center Executive Development Program as well as the UT Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution Fellows Program, highlighting her dedication to environmental stewardship and leadership development.
