An investigation is ongoing in Paramount after a man was shot and killed by an LA County sheriff's deputy earlier this Thursday. The incident, which occurred near the 15000 block of Paramount Boulevard, took place around 12:15 a.m. according to KTLA. Precise details leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed, but it was reported that no deputies were injured during the encounter.
Further reporting by CBS News provided additional context, revealing that deputies were responding to a man armed with a machete in the sheriff's station parking lot. The sheriff's department stated that the deputy had given the man several commands to drop his weapon, which he did not comply with, leading to a deputy-involved shooting. The man, who was reportedly in the process of damaging another patrol vehicle with the weapon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
As per procedure, an alert was sent out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announcing that its Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting. This notification system also indicates that multiple independent investigations commence immediately when a deputy-involved shooting occurs and that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will eventually conduct a legal analysis to assess criminal charges and the justification of the shooting.
The identity of the deceased has not been made public at this time. The Sheriff’s Department has encouraged anyone with further information to contact their Homicide Bureau or to provide tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers’ website or phone line.
