In a display of community support and empathy, students at La Jolla Country Day School have extended their hands across the miles to reach out to those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. The school's Kindness Crew, composed of third-graders, led a heartwarming initiative. It set up card-making stations to allow students to express their sympathies and encouragement toward the fire victims and first responders. Aiming to spread kindness, the younger students at the school crafted personal messages in a colorful display of solidarity.
FOX 5 San Diego reported that the initiative at La Jolla Country Day School was not confined to creating cards alone. Faculty and staff also assembled 150 care packages for first responders, and further contributions included over 1,000 items such as gift cards, diapers, blankets, and toys. The upper school students additionally contributed through a bake sale to raise money, showcasing the widespread effort from the entire school community to support those in LA.
During an event where they facilitated the card-making, one of the young participants of the Kindness Crew, Benedict Peveich, mentioned, "They need a heartwarming message," emphasizing the importance of moral support in such trying times. Moreover, Arabella Adler, also from the Kindness Crew, shared her card's message with FOX 5 San Diego: "Dear families, I’m so sorry if you lost your home, but I know things will get better. I’ll let you know that the kindness crew is here for you," articulating a sense of hope and comradeship.
Meanwhile, according to a post by La Jolla Country Day on their social media, the school expressed pride in their Grade 3 Kindness Crew for taking the lead in crafting "thoughtful cards for students and families impacted by the LA wildfires, as well as heartfelt thank you letters for our dedicated firefighters," further displaying the breadth of empathy cultivated within the school. Despite the geographic distance, the La Jolla community remains hopeful that their creative efforts will comfort and encourage those facing adversity in Los Angeles.
