
Tragedy struck early yesterday morning in Lake County when a single-vehicle crash resulted in one fatality and minor injuries to the driver. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved a 2024 Chevy Malibu traveling eastbound on County Road 48 when it went through the stop sign at the intersection of County Road 33. ClickOrlando reported the sedan failed to stop, ran off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned after becoming airborne over a ditch.
The crash, which occurred around 2:26 a.m., involved two men from Puerto Rico: a 26-year-old driver, who suffered minor injuries, and his 41-year-old passenger, who was pronounced dead at the hospital. Information detailed by WESH states that the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. The driver was reportedly the only occupant who was wearing a seat belt and was hospitalized following the crash.
In their continued investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol is looking into the circumstances of the crash. The FHP has not yet publicly identified the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending against the driver.
