During a traffic stop in Lakeland yesterday morning, two puppies and a significant amount of marijuana were confiscated, as per Florida Highway Patrol. The discovery took place after 20-year-old Xavier Benitez was pulled over due to his erratic driving, WFLA reports. Benitez, who was speeding and weaving through lanes on State Rd. 400, caught the attention of a trooper just after 7 a.m., resulting in the search that unearthed marijuana and two dogs in his possession.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the trooper detected the distinct aroma of marijuana and asked Benitez about it. Benitez admitted to having the drug, saying, "I only have this," while presenting a container with a green leafy substance. The ensuing vehicle search revealed three sealable baggies of marijuana with cinematic labels such as "Home Alone 6," "Scarface," and "Ted Penguin," and paraphernalia including a grinder and wrapping paper. In total, more than 237 grams of marijuana containing THC were found, alongside the unsuspecting puppies in the space designated for the spare tire, FHP detailed, with baggies boldly labeled "Home Alone," "Scarface," and "Def Jam," according to WFLA.

Benitez, whose license had been canceled or revoked, faced multiple charges including possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or deliver, possession of drug equipment, and a traffic violation. WTSP notes that during the stop, Benitez admitted to knowing about the drugs in the car, stating he picked up the vehicle from the Orlando Airport with the contraband already inside. Subsequently, he was arrested and taken to Polk County Jail.

The fate of the two puppies, meanwhile, ended on a different note as they were turned over to Polk County Animal Control. The authorities have not confirmed whether the dogs were owned by Benitez or associated with the drug activity.
