The city of Las Cruces is opening its doors and dumpsters to the community for a concentrated clean-up effort. On Saturday, Jan. 11, from 8 a.m. to noon, residents will have the opportunity to easily dispose of their yard waste, household trash, and other non-restricted items at no cost. This community-centric initiative is part of the Parks and Recreation Department's Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program (KLCB), which is committed to maintaining the city's charm and cleanliness.
During this Neighborhood Dumpster Day, KLCB is aiming to not just offer a free space to responsibly discard unwanted items but also to educate the public about waste management. KLCB staff will be on hand at each location to assist community members and to strictly explain what can or cannot be thrown into the open-top containers. According to the City of Las Cruces, this event is an effort to engage residents in keeping their city beautiful while providing them with the resources to do it effectively.
The designated disposal locations for this event are at East Mesa Recreation Center on 5589 Porter Drive, Young Park at 850 S. Walnut Street, and the corner of Motel Boulevard/Westway Avenue at 674 N. Motel Boulevard. The city has highlighted the importance of only bringing acceptable items to these sites and reminds residents that certain materials such as medical waste, hot ashes, tires, and other hazardous or heavy items are prohibited. The complete list of restrictions is available in the city's announcement.
KLCB management emphasizes that the container locations will be monitored, ensuring residents properly unload their items without leaving behind any prohibited waste. Volunteers and staff alike are there to ensure everything runs smoothly and to provide guidance to anyone unsure about how to correctly dispose of their trash. "Keeping Las Cruces clean is a shared effort," said a KLCB spokesperson, as obtained by the City of Las Cruces.
