Authorities in Ventura County have recently apprehended a pair of thieves with a penchant for concealing stolen goods using girdle-style devices. According to a report released by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Jose Mujica, 61, and Anyela Corredor-Casallas, 52, both residents of Los Angeles, were arrested on December 17, 2024, following an investigation into a series of thefts at the Camarillo Outlets, with losses estimated around $4,500. The Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force, in coordination with Under Armour's asset protection team, identified the suspects after a month-long probe into the incidents.
Detectives observed the suspects exiting an Under Armour store before arresting them as they entered their vehicle. Both individuals were found with merchandise-stuffed girdles containing a total of 17 pairs of jeans. Investigators on the scene also discovered additional stolen items and tools meant to dismantle security devices. Mujica and Corredor-Casallas faced felony theft-related charges and were held on $100,000 bail, though Mujica's bail was later reduced to $20,000, as reported by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
Following their arraignment where they faced two felony charges of conspiracy to commit organized retail theft, one felony charge of burglary, one felony charge of grand theft, and one misdemeanor charge of possession of burglary tools, Corredor-Casallas was ordered to be released on her recognizance, while Mujica posted bail and was released, as detailed by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Both suspects are due back in court on December 31st.
