Firefighters tackled a significant blaze at a single-family home in Sun Valley on Saturday evening. The fire, which displayed heavy flames upon the department's arrival, was located at 10736 W Stagg St. An LAFD alert issued at 05:44 PM indicated that the firefighters were actively engaged in combatting the flames.
A total of 44 firefighters were deployed to the scene, fighting the fire in what was described as an offensive mode, with more resources coming to their aid. The concerted effort by fire crews was successful, as the team knocked down the fire in approximately 28 minutes. Remarkably, no injuries were reported, according to a follow-up alert from the department.
The fire was successfully contained to a rear house on the property, preventing further spread to neighboring structures or areas. The quick response and effective action taken by the LAFD were critical in this result. As firefighters overcame the flames, they located a potential hazard: a lithium-ion battery was found on the residence's balcony.
Protocol dictated a cautious approach to the discovered battery, so LAFD's Hazmat Squad was promptly summoned to the scene. The squad was called in to assist with mitigating any potential dangers presented by the highly reactive battery. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as is usual practice in such incidents, the LAFD has not yet provided further details on the matter.
