Firefighters in Los Angeles responded to a blaze at a downtown commercial building early Tuesday morning. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Fire Department was alerted to the fire at 7:40 a.m. at the address 1426 South Paloma Street near East 14th Street. Commuters witnessed a thick plume of smoke billowing into the sky amid the early bustle of the city.
The affected building, which is home to a flooring company, fortunately, did not sustain major damage from the flames. A boat, a food truck parked outside, and two other vehicles located nearby, however, did suffer from the fire when Sky5 arrived at the scene, as per KTLA. It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties as a result of the incident.
The Los Angeles Fire Department's alert described the event as a "Large outside fire exposing a 2-story commercial building" and that fire crews were in "offensive mode" to combat the flames.
Encouragingly, the LAFD reported a "KNOCKDOWN Outside Fire," just 28 minutes after the initial alert. This swift action involved 48 firefighters and prevented any further spread to the building itself. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, and operations to overhaul the site are ongoing.
