A Los Angeles man with a history of felony convictions has been slapped with a 63-month sentence in federal prison for illegal ammo possession and a threatening encounter in 2024, the Justice Department announced recently. Edward Conway, 47, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson after pleading guilty to a count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Conway, described as a transient during his latest offense, spun a frightening scene on February 25, 2024, where he aimed a gun at his ex-girlfriend's cousin and also threatened the man's dog to force a conversation with his ex-girlfriend, according to court documents; during the tense standoff, he demanded the victim disable a security camera and when the victim couldn't, Conway shot at it, leading his gun into the victim's back and forcing him against a car with threats still hanging in the air. Investigators on the scene later found a 9mm shell casing, and a child was hiding from the disturbance in a nearby house when Conway fired.
Prior to this incident, Conway's day involved assaulting and choking his ex-girlfriend outside a grocery store; he tossed her car keys onto a roof, trapping her with him, details from the sentencing memo showed, that this conduct earned Conway a felony domestic violence conviction with a 60-day custody sentence. His rap sheet, excluding the latest, features a range of felony convictions in Los Angeles Superior Court, including second-degree robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department took the reins in investigating this matter with Assistant United States Attorney Mirelle N. Raza of the General Crimes Section leading the prosecution.
