A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident in the San Fernando Valley area of Mission Hills on Wednesday evening, sparking a Los Angeles Police Department investigation. According to KTLA, the collision occurred minutes before 10 p.m., when a black Chevrolet truck hit a man in his 30s as he was crossing Rinaldi Street near Sepulveda Boulevard, outside of a marked crosswalk.
The driver of the Chevy truck did not stop to provide aid or identify themselves, as required by law, before continuing westbound. The LA Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene, and the man was pronounced dead. His identity has yet to be released, "pending notification of his family," as per KTLA. A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the driver, or a resolution through a civil compromise, this reward program being initiated by the city council in 2015 to address so many similar tragedies.
Investigators are actively seeking the public's assistance in the case. "Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division Detective Ramirez at (818) 644-8025" during business hours, as mentioned in the LAPD's official press release. Information can also be provided anonymously through the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
