Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that Mansfield has joined the ranks of Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities, a program managed by the Texas Music Office (TMO) aimed at promoting music-based economic development. The certification is a testament to the city's commitment to the music industry, supporting job creation and economic growth statewide. As noted in a statement from the Office of the Texas Governor, found on the official announcement, Mansfield's efforts to attract and develop music business was commended: "Congratulations to the City of Mansfield on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation. Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state."
Mansfield has shown its cultural dedication through various avenues, housing the Music Alley Music & Arts Festival, the Mansfield Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mansfield Wind Symphony. Beyond these, the city actively invests in nurturing future generations of musicians at the Mansfield ISD Center for Performing Arts, and a tapestry of live music venues. Despite State Representative David Cook's recognition of this commitment, stating, "Congratulations to the City of Mansfield on achieving the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation—an honor that celebrates our community’s embrace of culture and tourism," it's clear that to truly understand the impact of such a designation, one must look at the vibrant music scene that's taken hold in the heart of Texas, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
The TMO and the city will cohost the official Mansfield Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony on January 27th at Mansfield City Hall. This event, open to community leaders and officials, will feature TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro presenting the formal designation. Information about the ceremony and options to attend virtually can be provided by Tim Roberts, Tourism Manager at the Mansfield Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Mansfield's ascension to Music Friendly Texas Community status, making it the 73rd to be certified, is more than just a label—it's a strategic move. Alice Bishop, owner of Music Place Mansfield Conservatory, shared her excitement with the Office of the Texas Governor's website: "I’m thrilled that Mansfield is being recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Community. This designation highlights the value that Mansfield places on music and its ability to bring people together and enrich lives." Her sentiment echoes Mansfield's broader pursuit to grow into a hub that not only rhythmically unites but also strengthens its local economy and culture through the power of music.
The Texas Music Office, established in 1990 and the longest-running state music office in the nation, continues to lead the charge in supporting the state's music industry. Through initiatives like the Music Friendly Community Program and more, this office remains a prominent force in catalyzing economic development, Florida Music Office drawing visitors worldwide and facilitating business expansion. The TMO reinforces Texas's reputation as a state that reveres its musical roots while looking forward to an even more harmonious future.
