Sports enthusiasts on Maui will need to find alternative venues starting in late January as the Fifth Street courts at Lānaʻi Park Complex will be closed for renovations. The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that the courts will be closed from January 27 through August 31 for repairs and upgrades to the facilities.

The renovations will include resurfacing, restriping, new fencing, and updated lighting. A designated pickleball court will also be added to accommodate the growing interest in the sport. Tennis courts will feature new nets, net post sleeves, and wind screens, while basketball courts will be equipped with new hoops, backboards, and nets upon completion of the project.

The department has confirmed that other facilities within the Lānaʻi Park Complex will remain open during the renovation period, allowing the community to continue using open spaces and recreational areas while the courts are being renovated.

For further information or inquiries regarding the temporary closure of the courts, the department's Planning and Development Division can be reached at (808) 270-7931. General information about county parks and their facilities is also available on the county's official parks website.

As fall approaches, the Fifth Street courts are scheduled to reopen on September 1, with improvements aimed at serving the community for years to come. In the meantime, athletes across the island may explore alternative venues or find other courts around Maui.
