Mayor Bruce Harrell of Seattle has announced significant changes to his Cabinet, including promoting Jessyn Farrell to Deputy Mayor and Adiam Emery to interim Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), as reported by the Office of the Mayor. These appointments will take effect on February 4.
Emery, who has nearly 30 years of experience at SDOT, "has proved to be one of Seattle’s most effective advocates for transportation safety," Mayor Harrell said, as per the Office of the Mayor. Her leadership on the Keep Seattle Moving transportation levy is one of the many contributions that have led to her new role. Jessyn Farrell, previously the Director of the Office of Sustainability and Environment, is being recognized for her achievements in climate action, including more trees, cleaner buildings, and a more sustainable food system. Mayor Harrell expressed his trust in Farrell's transportation and climate leadership expertise.
Additional transitions within Harrell's administration also include Natalie Walton-Anderson stepping up as Chief Public Safety Officer, Angela Brady taking on the role of Sound Transit Designated Representative while maintaining her position at the Office of the Waterfront, and Kiersten Grove, who will be nominated as the permanent Director of Finance and Administrative Services later this month. Michelle Caulfield will also serve as acting Director of the Office of Sustainability and Environment as a national search for a new director is launched.
"I am honored to step into this role as a Deputy Mayor and support Mayor Harrell’s ambitious goals for a healthier, safer, and more climate resilient Seattle," Farrell said, emphasizing the collaborative effort in tackling the climate crisis over the past three years. Emery also expressed her joy in returning to SDOT as Interim Director, underscoring her commitment to safety, equity, and sustainability. "I am fully invested in our commitment to safety, equity, and sustainability in transportation," Emery told the Office of the Mayor.
