16-year-old Edgar Cano Quintero is facing serious charges after a violent incident in Mesa, authorities say. According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the teenager was indicted as an adult on multiple felony counts including first-degree murder and armed robbery.
The charges stem from a December 18, 2024 incident, where Quintero was allegedly captured on surveillance footage shooting a man inside a pickup truck. The location, near McKellips Road and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway, became a crime scene quickly after the violence unfolded. Following the shooting, Quintero reportedly ran away, returned to the truck, and drove off with the victim still inside. The vehicle and the victim were later discovered abandoned in the desert.
Mesa police have arrested Quintero, who is currently being held on a $1 million cash-only bond. The indictment includes one count of first-degree murder, alongside charges for armed robbery, theft of means of transportation, abandonment or concealment of a dead body, and tampering with physical evidence, as detailed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. The indictment outlines allegations against Quintero, but he is innocent until proven guilty.
