Residents and commuters in Mid-Missouri should brace themselves for a range of highway maintenance and construction activities taking place from January 6 to January 12. According to information provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), these operations are set to include pothole patching, brush cutting, and pavement repair in various locations. Officials are reminding motorists to remain cautious and be prepared for slow-moving equipment during their travels.
Of the numerous projects underway, Boone County faces one of the more significant interruptions with the continuation of bridge construction along U.S. Route 63. The construction is set to create a head-to-head traffic pattern with narrowed lanes and a reduced speed limit, expected to last through late 2025. These changes come as part of the broader Improve I-70 program, which aims to enhance transportation infrastructure across key routes. Commuters can expect to similarly also navigate through new pavement construction along Interstate 70 in Columbia from Route B (Paris Road) to U.S. Route 63 through January 2027.
In Callaway, Crawford, Dent, and other counties, additional road work including culvert replacements and roadside operations are scheduled, potentially leading to intermittent lane closures and traffic rerouted to single lanes. MoDOT urges drivers to anticipate potential delays and observe all traffic rules when approaching these work zones. The route-specific projects ensure the safe passage not just for present commuters, but they also lay down the foundation for future travel.
Drivers in Laclede County should notably be aware of Route K being closed daily between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for culvert replacement from Jan. 6 – 10. On the roads spanning from Maries to Pulaski County, a mix of roadside work, shoulder work, and pothole patching will likewise intermittently reduce traffic to a single lane as teams work to flag traffic through effectively.
