The Milton Fire-Rescue Department's Fire CARES program is offering free wellness checks, which will be administered by Derek Hofmann, a firefighter, paramedic, and CARES team member. Starting this week, the checks will include blood pressure and glucose testing, as well as electrocardiograms (EKGs), according to a release from the City of Milton. These services aim to detect potential health issues early, providing a critical benefit to the community.
The Fire CARES program focuses on preventative care, with the goal of reducing hospital visits and emergency calls. The drop-in clinics will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on select dates, starting today at Community Place, next to City Hall. No appointments are necessary, though there may be wait times during busy periods.
Under the leadership of Derek Hofmann, now a registered nurse, the Fire CARES program is expanding its healthcare services. Before becoming an RN, Hofmann and the CARES team provided services such as the M410 Advanced Life Support unit's quick response to 911 calls. These efforts help ease the strain on other emergency services and reduce costs for the city.
In addition to the wellness clinics, Fire CARES offers life-saving courses like CPR and Stop the Bleed. The program also provides free in-home visits for individuals enrolled in its wellness program.
