The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced plans to fully replace an aging bridge on Route 72 over Turkey Creek in Madison County, positioned between County Road 529 and Route K. Citing the necessity for improved infrastructure, MoDOT has stated that construction might possibly begin come spring 2026, aiming to keep disruption to a minimum for local traffic.
While the primary focus is on keeping Route 72 open during the construction, MoDOT has warned that temporary closures could be expected, particularly when traffic needs to be shifted around and during the setting of beams. To further ensure community involvement and accessibility, MoDOT is making project maps and plans available for public viewing and copying at their Sikeston District office located at 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.
MoDOT has also extended an offer for language assistance should individuals require it in another language besides English. Concerned parties should reach out to Project Manager Donna Philpot at (573) 472-5347 by January 10, 2025, for such assistance, as per the announcement published by MoDOT. This gesture reflects an understanding of the diverse linguistic needs that might arise within their community stakeholders.
The department is also open to arranging a public meeting if requested by those influenced by the project. Requests must however be made in writing, and should properly be submitted to District Engineer Mark Croarkin at 2675 North Main St., Sikeston, MO 63801. The deadline for submitting a request for a public meeting has been set for next Wednesday. This process ensures that any community concerns are formally considered in the project's planning and execution phases.
