St. Louis is waking to clear skies and temperatures near 75 degrees, but the quiet start will give way to a dangerous afternoon. Thursday’s high is expected to reach 100, with the heat index climbing as high as 107. An Extreme Heat Warning covers the city and much of the metro through 8 p.m. Saturday, when heat indexes could reach 110.
Triple-Digit Heat Holds Through Saturday
Today will stay sunny with southwest winds of 2 to 7 mph and virtually no chance of rain. Friday repeats the setup with another sunny 100-degree afternoon and a heat index up to 107, while Saturday should be mostly sunny and near 99 with only a small rain chance. The National Weather Service says the warning reflects dangerously hot conditions expected across the St. Louis region.
The alert is a significant escalation from the heat advisory covered in Hoodline’s earlier forecast. Forecasters say several consecutive days with heat indexes at or above 105 will increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially during the afternoon and early evening.
Sunday Eases Back, But Still Feels Hot
A weak front should bring a modest dip Sunday, with sunny skies and a high near 96. Labor Day is expected to reach 94, while overnight lows finally ease from the upper 70s to about 71 Sunday night and 72 Monday night. Some parts of the area could still see heat indexes above 100 on Sunday.

Residents should use air conditioning or shade when possible, drink plenty of fluids and move strenuous outdoor work away from the hottest afternoon hours.
