St. Louis woke to clear skies and temperatures around 72 degrees Tuesday, but the city is heading into another dangerous heat stretch. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 101 degrees, with the heat index climbing as high as 104.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for St. Louis and surrounding counties through 8 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service says heat-index values could reach 108 in parts of the region, while warm nights will make it harder for people, homes and bodies to cool down.
Triple-Digit Heat Holds Through Friday
Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 100 and a heat index up to 106. Thursday and Friday are also expected to reach 100 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and light southwest winds generally between 3 and 8 mph.
Saturday brings little relief, with a high near 99 and mostly sunny conditions. Rain chances remain very low through the weekend, so there is no meaningful break from the heat expected before Sunday.
Small Break Arrives For Sunday And Labor Day
A weak front could bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Sunday, but the chance of rain is only 20 percent and the high is still forecast near 97 degrees. Labor Day should be mostly sunny with a high near 94, followed by a cooler low around 72 Monday night.
Cooling Resources And Heat Safety
The advisory recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning, avoiding direct sun and moving strenuous outdoor work to the early morning or evening. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, and anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place while 911 is called.
