Motorists and community members in New Madrid, Mississippi, and Stoddard Counties should prepare for three key infrastructure projects set to commence this coming May. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced plans to replace aging and possibly outdated bridges in these localities, aiming to improve safety and connectivity for everyday travelers.
The three bridges set for replacement, as detailed by MoDOT, are the Route E bridge over Little River Drainage Ditch 251 in New Madrid County, the Route 102 bridge over Black Bayou, in Mississippi County, and the Route O bridge over Drainage Ditch 287 in Stoddard County. Notable for their strategic locations, the bridges facilitate local commutes and are integral to accessing areas like the Big Oak State Park Entrance.
Construction activities are expected to cause some disruptions with the roadway being closed around each bridge site for about three months, a standard consequence of such necessary upgrades. However, MoDOT has ensured that signed detours will guide motorists around the construction zones. Commuters will be directed through alternative routes to minimize the inevitable disruption that comes from upgrading these critical thoroughfares.
MoDOT has also provided a contact for non-English-speaking constituents who may need assistance with the upcoming changes, stating, "If assistance is needed in another language, please contact MoDOT Project Manager Chris Crocker at (573) 472-9033." This initiative underscores the department's commitment to serving the diverse demographic makeup of these counties.
Public participation in the planning process has been encouraged. Anyone desiring to delve deeper into the specifics of the proposed bridge replacements or wishing to express their concerns can request a public meeting. Echoing the department's commitment to community feedback, "any person affected by these projects may request that a public meeting be held in regard to the proposed improvements," said MoDOT. These requests must be penned and sent to District Engineer Mark Croarkin at the provided Sikeston address by the deadline specified.
