Montgomery County Council committee meetings are moving temporarily. According to a recent announcement by the council, starting Feb. 3, the Davidson Memorial Hearing Room will serve as the venue for a select number of committee meetings. Hosting hearings for the Board of Appeals and Office of Zoning and Administrative Hearings, this room is situated just past Room 217 on the second floor of the Council Office Building. No need to worry about scheduling conflicts—there won’t be any overlapping meetings in this space.
In addition, these meetings won't be held behind closed doors. The council's pledge to transparency remains intact, as sessions held in the Davidson Memorial Hearing Room will be accessible to the public eye and ear. Live streaming on both the Council's YouTube page and its website ensures that those who can't make it in person won't miss a beat. Not one to settle into complacency, the Council's Hearing Room located on the seventh floor will be the primary space for forums of governance.
The impetus behind this temporary shuffle is one of renovation—a reimagining of public use spaces within the Council Office Building. Anticipated to be complete by spring 2025, the revamp promises enhanced meeting areas for community members and visitors, and a convenient grab-and-go food vendor to serve hungry visitors. Once the updates are complete, committee meetings are expected to return to their usual locations on the third and seventh floors, as detailed by the county's press release.
Residents can visit the Council's website for the latest agenda and room assignments. The site provides real-time updates on committee meeting locations, ensuring everyone stays informed.
