Detectives in Montgomery County are on the trail of a Poshmark scam, with concerns growing about the possibility of numerous victims caught in its web. The Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Patrol Investigative Unit (PIU) is leading the charge after a victim came forward on September 7, 2024, revealing their bank card was used fraudulently to make a purchase at Dick's Sporting Goods, according to a press release by the department. The incident has unwound into a larger investigation spotlighting Poshmark seller "@valdez310," who detectives determined has been playing with stolen credit card information to hoodwink buyers on the platform.
What unfolded was a chain of discoveries linking the fraudulent Dick's Sporting Goods purchase to an unsuspecting Poshmark customer. The detectives tracked the package to the recipient, who had bought the item from “@Valdez310” on Poshmark. The detectives found out, the item had been originally bought with the victim's bank card and then misrepresented as a Poshmark sale.
The Montgomery County PD believes this case may be just the beginning, with more potential victims whose personal details were used for fake listings. The PIU is urging anyone who suspects they were scammed by Poshmark seller "@valdez310" to contact them at 240-773-5476, as mentioned in the police statement.
