
A tragic incident unfolded in Seminole County on Tuesday morning when a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 32-year-old man. Zachary Cook of Moore was driving a Polaris Ranger on the shoulder of Oklahoma State Highway 56, near EW 1360 Road, about five miles south of Wewoka when he attempted a U-turn. The vehicle flipped over, resulting in Cook's death, according to a report by KOCO.
The accident occurred around 10:18 a.m., with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol stating Cook had been pinned under the vehicle for approximately five minutes before being pronounced deceased on the scene. "He was pinned for approximately five minutes and pronounced deceased on the scene," detailed the report. In an additional insight into the crash dynamics, Cook was notably not wearing a seatbelt and, unsafe speed was listed as the cause of the crash, as written by OKC FOX.
This incident highlights the risks of utility task vehicles (UTVs), particularly when driven too fast or without seat belts. The Polaris Ranger, a popular model, was traveling north on OK-56 during the crash. Local officials stress the importance of wearing seat belts and following safety rules when using these vehicles.
