A three-vehicle collision in Oxnard on New Year's Day has left multiple people injured, one of them critically. According to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department, the accident occurred around 2:12 p.m. at the intersection of Wooley Road and Commercial Avenue.
Upon the arrival of the Oxnard Police and EMS, a heavily damaged Ford F-350 pick-up was found at the scene along with two other pick-ups, a Ford Ranger and a Chevy Silverado, all bearing significant smash. The crash resulted in injuries to six individuals, varying from complaints of pain to critical conditions, with the critically injured being the driver of the Ford Ranger. They were all transported to local hospitals for further medical attention, as per the Oxnard Police Department.
Initial investigations indicate that the Ford F-350, driven by 52-year-old Francisco Carreto of Oxnard, ran a red light and slammed into the other two vehicles, which were moving through the intersection on a green light, as detailed by the Oxnard Police Department. The news release also reports that while Carreto was not injured in the wreck, impairment from alcohol and/or drugs is suspected, and he was subsequently arrested for DUI. Speed is also thought to have played a role, but the full cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The Oxnard Police Department's traffic investigators are managing the ongoing investigation and urge witnesses or others with information relating to the crash to contact Officer Alexis Arellano.
