Last night, a tragic incident of violence unfolded near MacArthur Park, where according to the Los Angeles Police Department, six individuals were wounded in a shooting potentially linked to gang conflict. As per KTLA, the events began around 12:45 a.m. with four individuals being shot by a suspect on the 600 block of South Alvarado Street in the Westlake neighborhood.
Shortly after, the lone gunman fled the scene and continued the assault near MacArthur Park, shooting a fifth victim. Following the initial chaos, a second shooter is reported by the police to have opened fire on a sixth victim on the east side of Alvarado Street near the Westlake/MacArthur Park Metro station, as detailed by KTLA.
CBS Los Angeles noted that three victims are reported to be in stable condition, while three others remain in critical condition. All were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The LAPD has confirmed that the shootings are gang-related.
Investigators are canvassing the area for evidence and reviewing surveillance footage. A section of Alvarado Street remains closed between 6th and 7th streets, according to FOX LA. Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect.
