Nashville residents are gearing up to face a blast of cold as temperatures are expected to drop significantly. According to the National Weather Service Nashville, a Cold Weather Advisory is in place from 6 PM this evening until noon CST Monday, with single-digit lows and chilling wind gusts that could make it feel as low as minus 5 degrees. The advisory encompasses all of Middle Tennessee, urging locals to don suitable attire to stave off the biting chill.
The forecast details light snow showers with less than a half inch of accumulation possible overnight, and the chance for snow continues into Sunday morning. The National Weather Service Nashville warns that the "cold wind chills as low as 5 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken." Residents should quickly to prepare, with the need to dress warmly in layers, wearing hats and gloves when venturing outside. This sudden drop in temperature follows a cloudy period with highs just edging near the freezing mark.
Moving into the week, temperatures will remain low. Martin Luther King Day will see sunny skies but highs only near 24 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by wind chill values plummeting as low as minus 1. The nights will be particularly harsh, with Monday night predicting mostly cloudy conditions and a low of around 15 degrees. The cold snap is expected to relent somewhat as the week progresses, with the weather gradually warming up by the following Saturday.
Given the risks associated with such frigid temperatures, the Cold Weather Advisory includes crucial advice for those in affected areas. "Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves," the advisory states, as ignoring such guidance could easily lead to dangerous situations, as per National Weather Service Nashville.
