NC By Train has reached a new milestone in ridership, transporting over 720,000 passengers, a 12% increase from 2023 and a 55% rise compared to 2019, before the pandemic. This growth is attributed to the service’s convenience, affordable fares, and environmental benefits, according to N.C. Department of Transportation release.

The introduction of additional train service between Raleigh and Charlotte in July 2023 has also contributed to the rise in ridership, along with special event trains that provide access to new destinations. For example, the Greensboro Wine and Chocolate Festival on Saturday next week is now accessible by train. NC By Train is also a designated driving sponsor for the event.

The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) provides federal grants to support traffic safety initiatives at the state and local levels.

Organizations interested in applying for grants for the 2026 fiscal year must submit their applications by the end of January. Last year, GHSP awarded over $22 million to support efforts aimed at reducing traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities on North Carolina’s roads.
