Two individuals with outstanding felony warrants in Nevada were caught in Nevada County during an early morning traffic stop, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office reports. The arrest took place on Rough and Ready Highway after a patrol sergeant pulled over a car with expired registration and fake tags yesterday.
According to a social media post from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle's driver, Michael Joseph Gunter, 40, of Portland, Oregon, and the passenger, Laura Ashley Adams, 35, of Auburn, were confirmed to have active warrants for their arrest from Nevada.
The recovered stolen property, which included mail and identification documents belonging to at least 15 individuals, suggested a broader scheme that extends beyond simple drug possession. "Upon their arrests, a search of the vehicle revealed numerous items of suspected stolen property including mail and identification documents belonging to at least 15 other people, burglary tools including shaved keys, and approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine," the sheriff's office disclosed.
Gunter and Adams are facing several charges, including possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, identity theft, transportation and sale of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to their existing warrants from Nevada. The investigation into the mail thefts and the identification of additional victims is ongoing, with efforts to return the stolen property. They were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility following their arrest. The sheriff's office is requesting anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
