An instructional assistant at New Port Richey's Achieve Center faces charges of felony child abuse and tampering with a witness after an incident involving an 8-year-old student, local law enforcement officials reported. WFLA News Channel 8 shared details of the allegations against Allan Craig, who is accused of pulling the child from under a table and then throwing the student to the ground and pushing them against a cabinet before moving to another room.
It was in this latter room that the child emerged with a bloody nose following an earlier claim by the victim of being choked by Craig on the bus, detailed reports from FOX 13 News. The circumstances leading up to the alleged attack at the school situated at 6915 Madison Street, have not yet been disclosed by authorities, leaving unanswered questions hovering like an unwelcome mist in the air.
Moreover, it came to light that Craig purportedly sought to cover up the incident by soliciting a colleague via text message, the police allege, asking a teacher to falsely declare that the injuries sustained by the child were the result of a fight with another student. ABC Action News highlighted this apparent attempt at witness tampering, a revelation that adds a layer of premeditation and deceit to the already troubling accusations.
The New Port Richey Police Department conducted an investigation, which led to action by the Achieve Center administration. This resulted in Craig's arrest.
