Just before the ball dropped on New Year's Eve, signaling the end of 2024, the Galt Police Department responded to a burglary alarm. The venue was the Golden One ATM located in the 600 block of Carol Drive, where an alleged heist was in progress. A social media post by the Galt Police details that security was alerted to a male subject pacing and then apparently spraying over a camera lens.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male suspect flee and enter a burgundy BMW without license plates. The suspect vehicle then sped north on SR-99, where sobriety checkpoints were likely in operation. Officers were able to safely initiate a high-risk traffic stop and detain both suspects for questioning about the ATM’s unexpected power outage. A gas-powered concrete cutter was found at the scene, unused.

A review of the night's events revealed that the suspects had cut through a chain-link fence to access the ATM's main breaker. This attempt to disable the ATM's power was unsuccessful, leaving them visible to police. They also tried to obscure a camera lens with spray paint. Suspects Margarito Christo Reyes and Pedro Lopez Jr. were found in possession of burglary tools, as well as devices intended to monitor police activity, including scanner apps and two-way radios.

According to the Galt Police report, Reyes, from Stockton, is facing charges of burglary, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, and a parole violation. His accomplice, Lopez Jr. from Lodi, faces similar charges, along with an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Both were transported to Sacramento County Main Jail. Their arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow, where the case will be presented before a judge.
