The New Year celebration in Aliamanu was marked by a fireworks explosion that resulted in multiple casualties. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a distress call at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday and responded to a medical emergency at 4137 Keaka Drive, where the incident occurred.
Upon arrival at 12:07 a.m., HFD, working in tandem with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), encountered multiple individuals with varying degrees of injury due to an explosion. Firefighters swiftly took control of the situation, ensuring that no active fire was present, assessed the stability of the impacted structure, and joined forces with EMS to manage patient triage, treatment, and transport. However, the incident resulted in two fatalities.
In the aftermath, the American Red Cross was contacted to offer aid to the displaced residents of the home. All of the responding HFD personnel were accounted for and reported no injuries among themselves.
An investigation is currently underway to uncover the origin and cause of the explosion and to provide the damage estimates. The final report will be shared once the investigation concludes. For more details on this developing situation, visit the HFD official website.
