Commuters navigating the pali tunnel on Honoapi‘ilani Highway should brace for upcoming nighttime traffic delays due to scheduled guardrail work, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced. Alternating traffic flow will be implemented to accommodate a lane closure at the tunnel, impacting travel times in the area.
The work, primarily aimed at improving safety, is scheduled to occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. It will begin tomorrow and is expected to cause potential delays, wrapping up for the week at 5 a.m. on Friday. According to the HDOT's notice, motorists planning to drive through these areas should anticipate changes to the usual traffic pattern during these times.
HDOT has urged drivers to heed all signs and traffic controls, emphasizing the importance of careful driving near the work zones to ensure worker safety. The second week of work is slated to continue on the following Tuesday, January 21, and proceed nightly before concluding at 5 a.m. on Friday, January 24.
