According to footage from an eyewitness, an Amtrak train carrying 157 passengers collided with a semi-truck in Auburn, Washington. According to FOX 13 Seattle, the incident occurred on a foggy Saturday morning, demolishing the truck but remarkably resulting in no reported injuries.
The driver, faced with an immediate choice between life and death, had mere seconds to escape the vehicle. "By the time I looked over the train was right there. Just jumped out. Yeah, it was real close. So I had like a good three seconds to get out," the driver, Young, stated, as per KIRO 7. Another witness, Chris B., explained the difficulty in gauging the oncoming train's speed because of the thick morning fog, saying, "We couldn’t really tell how fast it was coming like I seen it coming, I don’t know how fast, I just know trains be moving."
The unfortunate events unfolded as the semi-driver became stuck after turning onto a road that led to a dead end between another semi and the train tracks. To rectify the situation, they tried to back out, but disaster was imminent as the train rapidly approached.
