Eastwood High School in El Paso has returned to its normal routine after law enforcement concluded that a suspicious package found on campus posed no threat. According to KVIA, the school was placed on secure status yesterday, with students restricted from leaving the campus as police and bomb squad units investigated the incident.
The secure status, a precautionary measure that allows activities inside buildings to continue while barring entry and exit, was lifted once the package was deemed harmless. A YISD spokesperson relayed to KTSM that "the situation posed no threat," and that the students and staff had since resumed their regular schedule. The spokesperson also confirmed that there was no danger to the students at any point.
As detailed by El Paso Times, the package in question was located on the north side of the campus, alongside Montwood Drive. Authorities spent several hours examining the package before eventually clearing the scene and normal school operations resumed by 1:30 p.m.
