Old Colorado City residents and commuters brace for a slight disruption as the City of Colorado Springs gears up for a four-week closure of the 25th Street bridge over Naegele Road, set to begin come February 3. The bridge sits on the cusp of the west side, a stone's throw from U.S. Highway 24, and its closure is part of a maintenance project hashed out by municipal authorities, according to the City of Colorado Springs.
This necessary hiatus in the bridge's service will also encompass the adjacent Midland Trail, locking out its use to the local foot and bike traffic that has come to rely on it for their scenic commutes and recreational endeavors, the bridge is an integral part of the Old Colorado City infrastructure it connects the neighborhoods with the wider arteries that feed the city's constant hum of activity.
City planners are herding traffic to the alternatives, suggesting 21st Street and Colorado Avenue bear the load in the interim. Detour signs and adjustments are likely to begin cropping up, aiming to ease the transition and abate the inconveniences that come hand-in-hand with such civil engineering ballets.
